I like the Storyjumper from María del Rocío’s Study Maniac blog. I have thought that I could use it with my 3rd PMAR students after Xmas holidays to revise the tenses they studied in the first term. So the activity proposed consisted of making a fairy tale, as they would find it easier to do since they are familiar with them. They were reluctant to do the activity on their own, so I decided that we would build it together, hoping they would find it motivating in order to encourage themselves next time. They chose Little Red Riding Hood . The steps went as follows: 1. Revise the story. 2. Provide the basic vocabulary needed. 3. Revise the past simple, the present simple and the going to future. 4. Build the story together. 5. Feedback. Here is the link: https://www.storyjumper.com/boo...

This project was aimed at my students of 3rd PMAR, to try to make them more engaged with the subject, as students of this kind are quite reluctant to learning in general. The stages of it are explained below. As there are only six students in this class, I set up three groups of two students each. The project was worked on in the last days of the term, since they tend to be more tired and de-motivated. To prevent them from not doing the task, the projects were done in the IT room, under my supervision and guidance during such days. Once the project was done, they copied and pasted the info to be spoken on naturalreaders.com, which is similar to Voki but more adult-oriented. They listened to the sentences and repeated them. The outcome was pretty good and the goal was achieved. My conclusion about Genially is that it is a more interactive, thus motivating, tool compared to Google Slides and/or PowerPoint. Moreover, as it is done on the cloud, there are not the problems of co...

Hi, here's the link to Pixton Comics: https://share.pixton.com/qe8qeqg Sequence of the activity: Practise of the time and the vocabulary related to their daily routines. Explanation of present simple. Showing of some examples of Pixton comics already made. Doing together a sample comic on the interactive whiteboard. Publishing the activity to be done on Classroom (My daily routines - individual activity) and solve doubts. Co-evaluation in class of all the projects. Objectives: To revise the time and the vocabulary of routines. To learn the present simple. To make the learning process engaging. To learn to write creatively I think my students were very happy to do a writing activity in a creative way, which resulted in more tasks handed in than usual, as I gave them absolute freedom to do the comic the way they liked. They really enjoyed the process rather than the product as they could interact with their avatar.

Hi, this is the link for my first Edpuzzle: https://edpuzzle.com/media/61c078f1e1ed8242a20bafa9 The reason I've chosen this video is because I think my students will get more engaged with this subject if they perceive its usefulness. British culture may sometimes be seen as something disconnected with EFL. So the main objective was to give a glimpse of such culture. The second objective was to motivate these digital natives to approach listening activities form a different angle. The sequence went as follows: 1. General discussion to test the students knowledge about Britain. 2. Show some examples of Edpuzzle to make them familiar with the app. 3. Give them the class code. 4. Assign the task to be done at home (flipping) I think the students liked the activity because the percentage of participation was quite high. My next puzzle will include some voice recording too, both on my behalf and theirs.

The last days of the first term, my ESO 1 students have practiseed the creation of timelines by using TimeToast. The task they were encouraged to do was to create a timeline for each of the different British dynasties of monarchs (Tudor, Stuart, Windsor...). The objectives were as follows: - Knowing the history of British Monarchs - Learning to use timelines. - Making an interdisciplinary activity. At first, we watched a tutorial of TimeToast and, then, the students started to look for information on the internet. Once it was gathered, they proceeded with the elaboration of the timeline. As for the diffiiculties, they found it confusing the difference between "event" and "time spam", plus the order "month-day-year". Luckily, they were solved soon and they were enthusiastic about the idea. Regarding the things to be improved, it would be advisable to practise the format of the dates en English. Advantages of using TimeToast: - It is a different, funny and...

Why Do I Read? To begin with, by watching the pictures, my first thought is that, by being such a variety of types of reading, there is no excuse in saying “I don’t like reading”. It’s a matter of showing and encouraging the widest range of text as possible and that aim starts at the very childhood, namely, at home, by parents reading fairy tales thus activating their offspring’s imagination. And it should continue at school. Nevertheless, the question that arises is as follows: “Should reading be compulsory of voluntarily encouraged?” It is a fact that we humans do not like any kind of imposition. Consequently, I firmly believe that teachers should develop a wide range of activities to reach such goal. That way, not only fan readers will pop up but also, reading comprehension and critical thinking will be improved. Fortunately, there is an increasing number of graded readers both in L1 and L2, with lots of research behind to stimulate pupils to read. Regarding the different pic...
